Privacy Policy
1. Overview and Core Philosophy
Since You Watched Last ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a local watch history and resume manager for web browsers. It was designed from its very first commit to be private by default.
Unlike conventional extensions that send browsing metrics to remote cloud databases or third-party ad networks, Since You Watched Last has no backend servers. It runs entirely on your local computer.
2. What Information Is Stored
To provide playback tracking and resume functionality, the extension saves the following items exclusively to your browser's local sandbox storage (chrome.storage.local):
- Playback timestamps: The second mark where a video was paused or left off.
- Media metadata: Video title, series/episode indicators (when available), duration, and canonical video page URL.
- User preferences: Your auto-rewind buffer duration (default 10s), dark/light theme choice, on-page prompt settings, and the sites you have allowed or blocked.
3. What the Extension Does NOT Collect
Because we maintain zero remote tracking infrastructure:
- We do not collect personally identifiable information (no names, emails, IPs, or location data).
- We do not require user registration, passwords, or account creation.
- We do not track browsing behavior outside of the video players you explicitly watch.
- The extension does not use Google Analytics, cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party telemetry scripts.
- We do not sell, rent, or monetize your viewing habits in any form.
4. Content Security Policy (Technical Enforcement)
Our privacy promise is technically enforced at the architectural level. The extension manifest includes a strict Content Security Policy:
connect-src 'none'; object-src 'none'; script-src 'self';
This directive mathematically prevents the extension from initiating external HTTP network calls, WebSockets, or background telemetry beacons.
5. Cross-Device Transfer & Data Portability
When you transfer a video timestamp to your phone using a QR code, the QR code is generated 100% offline within your browser using vector mathematics. No network requests are made, and no intermediate servers receive the URL or timestamp.
You have full ownership of your data at all times. Using the Data menu in the dashboard, you can:
- Export your entire library to an open, human-readable RFC 4180 CSV file.
- Import previous CSV backups to restore your watch history.
- Permanently delete all stored watch records in a single click.
6. Site Access
The extension can only run on the sites it has access to. Out of the box, that is a short list of streaming sites (such as YouTube, Netflix, JioHotstar and Prime Video). For any other site, it asks Chrome for access to that one site when you choose "Track this site". You can review or remove site access at any time in Chrome's extension settings.
7. This Website (Analytics)
This website, which is separate from the extension, uses Google Analytics 4 with Consent Mode. Analytics cookies are only set if you choose Accept in the cookie banner; if you decline, or haven't chosen, analytics storage stays off. When enabled, it measures page visits and clicks on "Add to Chrome" links, with advertising features turned off. Your choice is saved in your browser, and you can reset it by clearing this site's data.
Google Analytics never receives anything from the extension. Your watch history is not visible to this website.
8. Third-Party Websites and Streaming Platforms
When you click "Resume" to continue watching a video, the extension opens the URL of the content provider (such as YouTube, Netflix, or JioHotstar). Once navigated, the privacy policy and terms of service of that specific provider apply to your interaction on their website.
When you remove the extension, Chrome opens a short feedback form on Google Forms. Filling it in is optional. The only thing the extension adds is its version number, filled into the form's "Extension Version" field; no watch history, settings or identifiers are sent. The form receives what you choose to submit, under Google's privacy policy.
